the far end of my summer

Went back out to Bluerock on Monday morning. It was a warm sunny day. I arrived at the campground by 2:00. Deni and Anne pulled in at 4;30. They were happy with the site so we set up our tents. Out of 66 camp sites only about 5-6 sites were occupied. A big change from a couple of weeks before when I was out there. It was a very warm night and we didn't have a fire. The next day was also nice but very windy. We sat around and relaxed for most of the day. Even had a nap in the afternoon. The night was going to be cool as there was not any cloud cover. We had a great fire and cooked our chicken and steaks on my cast iron grill. It was a delicious meal. The night was great for watching the stars but not many meteors.

Next day there was rain on and off but we did manage to go for a hike on the Interperative Trail. Went across a scree field that totally freaked out both Anne and Deni. I couldn't figure out why they were walking so wierd. I'm looking over thinking that would hurt if you fell down they can't even look let alone think about it. We took an easy path down to the river. Very pretty litttle stream. That night was once again clear. We had another fire and saw a great meteor show. A mouse came up to Deni and tentively touched her finger. Good thing it was her totem! Anne or I would have screamed the forest down for sure. We knew it was a mouse because Deni moved away from the picnic bench that she was sitting beside and when we heard the scrambling on the bench we all shone our flashlights on it. Tiny little critter.

That night it started to rain and never stopped so we had to pack up in the rain. UGH! Tent was wet and tarps were wet. We were wet. Got home and slept for 4 hours. the temperature was 9 degrees. There was the feeling of snow in the air. Sure enough there was a rain/snow falling that night. Glad I missed that night and was home warm in my bed.

Friday morning had a call that our annual Babes in the Badlands campout had been cancelled due to a severe thunderstorm warning. I wasn't that dissapointed because my tent was still wet and I was still tired out. We got together on Saturday to share all the food we had prepared at Cheryle's place. It was fun but not quite the same. I'll just appreciate next year all the more next year.
